Current studies show that Peyronie's disease (plastic induration of the penis) is an inflammatory disease of the penis where the elastic layer (tunica albuginea) of the penis in the central tissue (corpora cavernosa) is damaged. The process begins with the oxidation of various fats and protein molecules that lead to inflammation of the elastic layer (tunica albuginea) and the corpus cavernosum.
